The “Progress” subsystem is one of the core tools of the platform that helps learners improve their performance and achieve their goals within the course (docs.openeclass.org). This specific subsystem integrates advanced gamification mechanisms through the “Point Games” feature, allowing the instructor to reward the active participation of learners with points and tiers.
To use this feature, the subsystem must first be active in your course. First, select the “Course Management” link from the left menu and then click on the “Activate Subsystems” option. On the screen that appears, locate the “Progress” subsystem, move it to the active applications, and complete the process by clicking the “Submit Changes” button.2. Creating a New Point GameCreating a game allows course actions to be linked with the automatic awarding of points to users. To enter the individual details, navigate to the “Progress” subsystem from the left menu of the course, select the “Point Games” tab, and click on the “New Point Game” link. There, enter the Title of the game, type a short Description with the rules, and define its Validity Start and End Dates.

After creating the game, you must define the educational activities that will be rewarded by the platform. Select the “Add Rule” link and, from the “Select Subsystem” drop-down list, configure the target activity. In the Exercises subsystem, the reward concerns the completion of a test, with the option to set a minimum passing grade. In the Assignments subsystem, points are awarded for uploading a file, based either on timely submission or on the final score. For the Wiki subsystem, the platform counts user contributions for each new page or edit. In the Attendance subsystem, points are awarded automatically when the user is registered as present, while in the Learning Path, the reward depends on the completion percentage of the educational steps. For each rule, type the desired number of points in the “Reward Points” field and click on the “Save Rule” button.
To enhance learners' engagement, you can define levels that users achieve as they accumulate points. Select the “Manage Tiers” link and click on “Add New Tier”. There, you define the Tier Name, enter the Point Limit required to achieve it, and upload a digital Icon / Badge that will appear on the user's profile, completing the process with the “Save” link.
The teacher has a complete overview of the learners' progress at any time through the main screen of the subsystem, where the Leaderboard is displayed showing the total points and current tier of each user. By clicking on a learner's name, you can view the detailed history of their actions. Additionally, the option to modify points is provided for special cases of awarding or deducting points, by selecting the pencil edit icon next to the user's name and typing the relevant justification.
