A new feature available within course units is the enabling of unit completion. In practical terms, this means that for a learner to gain access to a specific unit, they must first complete a unit that has been “designated” as a prerequisite by the course instructor.
To enable “unit completion,” you must first create the desired units. This is done via the “add unit” link. Next, specify the unit's title and a short description, and click the “Submit” link.
Having now created all the units, navigate to the unit you wish to set as the prerequisite and select the “Unit Management” button, and then the “Enable Completion” link.
Subsequently, you must define the activities that the learner needs to complete for the prerequisite unit to be considered finished. This is achieved through the “add” button and the activity selection menu.
Next, to define the prerequisite unit, navigate to the desired unit and select the “Add Prerequisite” button. From the selection menu, choose the unit you want to be the prerequisite.
In essence, this way you specify that for a learner to access this particular unit, they must first complete the “prerequisite” unit that you have defined. It should be emphasized here that, for example, if you have created Units 1 and 2, and Unit 2 has Unit 1 as a prerequisite, Unit 2 will not be visible to the learner before its completion. That is, for the learner to see the contents of Unit 2, they must first have successfully completed the activities in Unit 1.
